You can use both!
There are some slight shades, between both forms, but nothing major :
"je m'assieds" is more high class than "je m'assois".. in France... but Canada prefes "assois".
Alors if not physical, "assoit" is preferred : " j'assois mon raisonnement sur..." = I base my reasoning on..
so may be as american, stick to "assois" everywhere.. would sound natural in majority of cases, especially in Canada :-)
